Abigail "Abiel" was the daughter of Joshua Downing (1769-1858) and Patience Chase (1771-1884).
Abigail was born and raised on the family farm at Deering, New Hampshire.
Although we haven't located where and when she died, we do know that Abigail resided at Deering, New Hampshire, as of August 1861, when she divorced her husband.
She married David Wilson Gregg on 15 or 23 July 1839 at Weare, New Hampshire.
A farmer, David, was born in 1811 at Deering, New Hampshire (N. H. VR; 1850 Federal Census).
He was listed as a taxpayer at Weare in 1840.
In 1840 they were enumerated at Deering, New Hampshire and their youngest son was born there in 1849.
By the summer of 1850 they moved to Hillsborough, New Hampshire where they were enumerated in the 1850 U.S. Census. They returned to Deering, New Hampshire, at some point where their youngest son died in 1857. They were enumerated at Deering in the 1860 U.S. Census.
Her brother Stephen C. cared for her father after their mother died, and Stephen inherited their parent's farm at Deering and the bulk of their parent's estate in 1858 [Hillsborough Co., N.H., Probate No. 02887]. Abigail and her siblings received $5 each from their father's estate.
Abigail, a resident of Deering, divorced David on 15 August 1861 at Hillsborough, New Hampshire.

1. Benjamin Franklin (1839-1916). He married Harriet E. HOOK.
2. George Henry (1849-1857), born and died at Deering, New Hampshire.
