BIO:

Eliza P. was a the daughter of Samuel Gove (1782-1855) and Abigail Newman (1785-1863).

Eliza was born at Deering, New Hampshire on 7 July 1818 [N. H. VR].

She died there on 18 February 1883, aged 64 years, 7 months, 7 days and is buried there next to her husband and daughter Abby A. in the East Deering Cemetery, New Hampshire [N. H. VR; g.s., East Deering Cemetery, p. 4].

Eliza married first, William WHITTLE, on 16 September 1837 in New Hampshire.

William was a son of Thomas Whittle (1793-1870) and Mary Folsom (1793-1858). He died on 1 January 1845 at Weare, New Hampshire and was buried there.

Eliza was married, second, to Stephen C. DOWNING by the Rev. Henry NUTTER at Deering on 25 November 1846 (N. H. VR).

Eliza and Stephen were long-time residents of Deering, New Hampshire [U.S. Censuses].

Her probate, dated at Petersborough, New Hampshire, on 26 February 1883, lists her only heirs as her daughters Josephine SMITH and Martha J. MITCHELL.

The total value of her real estate, called the Homestead Farm consisting of the Hill lot, the Wilson lot, the Collins Pasture, and the Gove Pasture, was given as $950 by appraisers Isaac SMITH, Richard CLEMENT, and Ahron PUTNEY on 2 March 1883 [Hillsborough Co., N.H., Probate No. 8429, 1883].
