BIO:
David Robert Wood Sr., 61, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Hospice House in Concord after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Hillsboro, he was born Dec. 17, 1947, the son of Robert W. and Ruth E. (Tewksbury) Wood.
He graduated from Hillsboro-Deering High School in 1965. David enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1967. He owned and operated DR Wood and Sons for the past 16 years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Georgeanne (Beasley) Wood, and by three children, David R. Wood Jr. and his wife, Monica D. (Slango) Wood, of Washington, N.H.; Deanne R. and her husband, Brandon Westgate, of Concord; and Todd M. Wood and his fiancée, Melissa Dargie, both of Hillsboro. He also leaves nine grandchildren; a sister, Janice (Wood) and her husband, Keith Wing, of Hillsboro; a brother, Carl , and his wife, Nancy (Kimball) Wood, of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews. David also leaves a tremendous amount of loving friends, including his car club family, the Lone Wolf Cruisers.
David was very active in the community, including his role as organizer of the High Tide Cruise Night. He served on the Antrim North Branch Fire Department and the Deering Police and Fire Department. He retired as captain, safety officer, with 25 years of service from the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Department. He also was a New Hampshire state fire instructor.
David was an antique and classic car enthusiast, was a Little League baseball coach, enjoyed music, enjoyed his train collection and spent many years collecting local postcards. He took great pride in achieving his amateur radio operators license (K1MAS), and he was a member of The Contoocook Valley Radio Club. He most recently found great enjoyment in assisting with the Hillsboro Historical Society's perpetual calendar.
Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Holt- Woodbury Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Services will be held tomorrow at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held later in the spring at Butler Cemetery in Deering.
