HILLSBOROUGH -- Harry L. Whitney Jr., 85, of Myrtle Street, died April 15, 2004, at Hillsboro House after a period of failing health.
Born in Hillsborough, he was the oldest son of Harry L. and Harriett S. Whitney, Sr., a Gold Star mother. He attended Hillsborough schools, graduating in the class of 1937.
Mr. Whitney served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a lifetime member of the Hillsborough Loyal Order of Moose and the American Legion Post 59 and was employed at Monadnock Paper Mills for 40 years. He previously worked at Hillsboro Woods Woolen Mills.
He enjoyed bingo, cribbage, and playing cards. He also loved hunting and fishing.
The family includes a sister, Lillian (Whitney) Titcomb of Hillsborough; a brother, David Whitney of Hillsborough and Florida; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holt/Woodbury Funeral and Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsborough.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be Tuesday at Butler Cemetery, Deering, with military services at that time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hillsborough Fire Dept., PO Box 7, Hillsborough 03244, for the purchase of the Thermal Image for Life.
