Johanna was a twin. She was baptized “Hanorah” in St. Patrick’s Church on 20 Jun 1855 in Flos Township, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. Her sponsors were John Doherty & Catherine Flanahan.
In the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses, she was recorded as Johanna. She entered the United States about 1883 and married Henry Snickles on 11 April 1887 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Her name on the marriage record was “Josie”.
Josie’s sister, Margaret, also was living in Lowell, Massachusetts at this time.
In 1900 and 1910 censuses, her name was recorded as Josie. Josie and Henry adopted a daughter, Grace Bradshaw in 1896. Grace was Henry’s niece’s daughter (Inez nee Snickles Bradshaw) and Grace’s mother died in 1896. Grace was 3 years old when her mother died.
Josie died a widow on 10 Oct 1918, having lost her husband 7 months earlier. Josie died of chronic Nephritis; an autoimmune disorder.
