Arlene N. Donovan
MANCHESTER -- Arlene N. Donovan, 81, died April 16, 2009, at a local healthcare facility after a period of failing health.
She was born in Hillsborough, Jan. 19, 1928, to Frederick and Carrie (Nichols) Johnson. She was raised in Hillsborough, and later resided in Franklin, Mass., before moving to Manchester in 1999.
She graduated from Hillsborough High School, where she was class valedictorian, and attended business school in Boston.
She and her husband owned and operated Darlene's Donuts in Franklin, Mass., for many years.
She was an avid candlepin bowler.
She was married to Thomas J. Donovan for 47 years. He died May 6, 2002.
Family members include a son, Frederick P. Donovan of Manchester; a daughter, Darlene Ferroli of Weare; three grandchildren; a sister, Violet Nichols of Keene; and several cousins.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Bulter Yard Cemetery, Deering.
